Couples Counselling
Relationships can be one of the greatest sources of comfort, connection, and growth in our lives, but they can also become places of pain, misunderstanding and distance when things feel stuck.
Couples counselling offers a space to pause, reflect, and begin to understand what is happening beneath the surface of the relationship. It is not about blame, taking sides, or deciding who is right or wrong. It is about creating a supportive space where both people can feel heard, understood, and better equipped to move forward. My role as counsellor is always of neutrality.
Whether you are struggling with communication, trust, conflict, emotional distance, life changes, or repeating the same painful patterns, couples counselling can help you finally make sense of what is happening and find a healthier way through together.
What is couples counselling?
Couples counselling helps two people understand their relationship more deeply and work through the patterns that may be causing tension or disconnection.
Many couples come to counselling when communication has broken down, arguments feel repetitive, intimacy has changed or hurt has not been fully resolved.
In our work together, I help you slow things down, explore what is happening beneath the surface, and better understand each other’s needs, patterns, and experiences. The aim is to create greater understanding, emotional safety, clearer communication, and a healthier way forward.
Reasons couples come to counselling
Couples seek counselling for many varied reasons. Some come in crisis, while others come because they want to strengthen their relationship before things worsen.
Common reasons include:
- Communication difficulties
- Frequent conflict or arguments
- Feeling disconnected or emotionally distant
- Trust issues or betrayal
- Intimacy problems
- Life transitions or added stress
- Parenting differences
- Feeling stuck in the same patterns
- Resentment, hurt, or unresolved past issues
- Wanting to rebuild, strengthen or better understand the relationship
Some couples also come because one or both partners are feeling unheard, unseen, or unsure how to express what they truly need. Others want support in learning how to relate to each other differently, with more empathy, honesty, and care.
How I can help
I offer a warm, balanced, and supportive space where both people have room to speak and be heard.
My role is to help you better understand the patterns within your relationship, the emotions underneath them, and the unmet needs that may be driving tension or disconnection. I work with couples to improve communication, deepen understanding, reduce blame, and create more constructive ways of relating.
This may involve helping you to:
- communicate more openly and effectively
- listen to each other with greater understanding
- identify and shift unhelpful patterns
- explore the deeper emotions beneath conflict
- rebuild trust and emotional safety
- strengthen connection and closeness
- navigate change, stress, or uncertainty together
Every relationship is unique, and I believe counselling should reflect that.
My experience
Alongside my work with couples, I also teach couples counselling as a tutor at Lindum College in Lincoln.
I bring this experience and ongoing learning into my work with couples, supporting you to understand your relationship more deeply and move forward with greater clarity.
An inclusive space for all couples
I offer an inclusive, respectful, and non-judgemental space for all couples, welcoming all backgrounds, identities, and relationship experiences. My aim is to create a space where both partners feel safe, seen and supported.
Taking the first step
Reaching out for couples counselling can feel daunting, especially when things have felt painful, stuck, or uncertain for a while. But seeking support is not a sign of failure. Often, it is a sign that the relationship matters, and that there is still a part of you hoping for something different.
If you are looking for support with your relationship, I would be honoured to work alongside you both.
